Patrick Donmoyer received his bachelor of fine arts at Kutztown University in both printmaking and textiles in 2009. He is currently the Historic Building Conservator for the Pennsylvania German Cultural Heritage Center, an open-air folk life museum at Kutztown University. His primary preoccupation for the past three years has been researching and photographing the celestial symbolism and folklore of the Pennsylvania German hex sign and the architecture of the Pennsylvania Barn. He is currently engaged in writing a book on the subject.
In the Summer of 2008 Patrick began the process of systematically documenting the historic origins of Pennsylvania German Barn Stars, a rapidly vanishing artistic tradition of southeastern Pennsylvania. He did this with the generous support of the Peter Wentz Farmstead Society, who funded the project with a research scholarship. His work has also extended into Lehigh, Northampton, Bucks, Montgomery, Lebanon, Lancaster, Schuylkill and York Counties. Patrick offers lectures to historical, civic and educational organizations consisting of photographic presentations summerizing the findings of his survey through the context of Pennsylvania Dutch Folklore.
He has also worked extensively for three years restoring historical carpet looms and providing the research necessary to create exhibits. He has demonstrated with historic looms at the Kutztown Folk Festival.
